Life As A Web Developer
Rewind back to June. I was working on a fraternity website (my largest project attempted at that time) and I was one month out of school looking for a development job around the Pittsburgh region. I managed 3 websites and only two were actively being used. I had never touched a popular CMS. I was the living breathing definition of a noob.
After stumbling across a position at WebMechanix I packed my bags and headed for the suburbs of Baltimore, MD. A couple interviews later I was granted my first full time professional position as a Developer Designer.
Now, fast forward 3 months. I now handle and manage over 20 clients. Over half of them are on some type of CMS. I have developed countless WordPress themes and custom functionality to accompany them.
It was as though in a blink of an eye, I had developed my own skills and abilities ten fold. And I couldn’t love it more. There hasn’t been one day since I started my position back in November that I did not enjoy being at work. I get to work with many different types of clients on many different types of CMS systems. But at the same time I see room for self improvement in my work everyday. I am still a young professional 6 months out of college and in my first position. It motivating, challenging and above all else exciting to know that even though I have come so far in a short period of time I still have yet to step into all realms of web development and design.
Who knows what I could be doing in 3 months from now… I can only keep working hard.
